엔지니어들이 원인을 규명하려고 기를 쓰고 덤볐으나 허사였다. 그래서 전문가를 불러왔다. 그가 기계를 잠시 만지작거리고 나서 망치로 한두 군데를 탁탁 치니 기계는 다시 돌아가기 시작했다. 그런데 수리비로 100만 원을 청구해 오자 공장장은 입이 딱 벌어졌다.
“아니 망치질 몇 번 한 것뿐인데 이렇게 많이 청구해요? 어디 구체적으로 명세서를 뽑아봐요.”
그러자 엔지니어는 다음과 같이 적었다.
‘망치질 값 1000원, 어디를 망치질 할 것인가를 알아내는 값 99만 9천원.’

A complicated machine stopped at the factory.
Engineers tried hard to fix the machine, but didn’t work. They called an expert.
The expert touched the machine a short time and banged with a hammer. Machine regained the power and worked. The expert asked ￦1,000,000 and the factory manager was shocked.
“You only a few hammering and how come it is so expensive? Write me another invoice.”
The expert wrote the bottom of the invoice.
“Hammering costs ￦1,000. Find where to hammer costs ￦999,000.”
